Sky Sports Soccer Saturday Breaks Major 3pm Blackout Rule During Nottingham Forest Game with Brighton

Accidental Slip-Up

Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, a popular football show in the UK, appeared to accidentally break the 3pm blackout rule during its recent broadcast. This rule prohibits broadcasters from televising live Premier League football between the hours of 2.45pm and 5.15pm.

A Brief Live Clip

During the broadcast, the show cut to pundit Michael Dawson, who was covering the Nottingham Forest vs Brighton game that kicked off at 3pm. However, the broadcasters seemed to mistakenly believe that the first half had ended and cut to the City Ground to show the players walking down the tunnel. Instead, viewers were shown a live clip of the game, with Lewis Dunk slowly carrying the ball out of his penalty area.

Laughing Off the Mistake

Host Caroline Barker laughed off the mistake, jokingly saying, "It's all going on, but that's what we love!" Despite the slip-up, the game continued, and Brighton secured a 3-2 victory, even with Dunk being sent off in the second half.

A Long-Standing Rule

The 3pm blackout rule has been in place since the 1960s and is expected to remain for at least another five years. The Premier League has not made any changes to this rule in its latest packages. This isn't the first time Sky Sports has made this mistake either, as they accidentally showed a clip of a previous Man City vs Brighton game last month.
