Sir Jim Ratcliffe Takes Charge
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the billionaire owner of Ineos, has reached an agreement to purchase a 25% stake in Manchester United. As part of the deal, Ratcliffe will also take over the football operations at the club. However, despite pressure on current manager Erik ten Hag, Ratcliffe has decided to give him time to turn things around.
Focus on Recruitment
Instead of immediately recruiting a new manager, Ratcliffe's priority is to improve the club's transfer recruitment. He reportedly wants to address the high fees spent on players like Antony and Jadon Sancho in recent years. Ratcliffe plans to invest £250 million in improving the club's infrastructure, including potentially re-organizing the recruitment team.
Support for Ten Hag
Ratcliffe is said to be confident that Ten Hag can change United's fortunes if given time and the support of an effective recruitment strategy. The club will provide funds for Ten Hag to invest in January, with a focus on strengthening the defense. Additionally, United is in the market for an experienced striker to support young Rasmus Hojlund, who has yet to score in the Premier League.
Possible Player Sales
When the transfer market re-opens, United may consider selling players. Both Antony and Sancho could potentially leave, with Antony possibly going out on loan. Sancho is currently banished from the first-team following a disagreement with Ten Hag.
