French defender Raphael Varane is set to leave Manchester United on a free transfer this summer, as the club has chosen not to trigger an extension to his contract. This decision allows Varane to enter into negotiations with foreign clubs as early as January. Meanwhile, former Manchester United player Gary Neville has expressed his hope that the club will also part ways with another defender, Victor Lindelof.

Gary Neville's opinion on Varane and Lindelof
Neville has expressed concern over the possible retention of Lindelof, while Varane's future at the club seems uncertain. However, it has been reported that Manchester United has decided to offer Lindelof an additional year on his contract, extending his stay until 2025. On the contrary, Varane is expected to be released by the club, as per reports from The Mail.

The French centre-back, 30, has battled injuries and has fallen out of favor with manager Erik ten Hag this season. Consequently, Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans have been preferred over him in starting lineups.
Neville shared his thoughts on social media, stating, "If United are looking to renew Lindelof and Varane (on reduced terms) I’m worried. We have to start afresh as much as possible. Whilst these 2 aren’t bad players by any stretch, a message must be sent to everyone inside and outside of the club that it’s not going to tolerate the levels over the last few years."
Varane's previous club, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich are rumored to be interested in signing the 2018 World Cup winner. However, Varane is reportedly United's highest earner, which could pose a challenge for potential suitors.
