Premier League cult hero, 34, becomes unemployed after leaving South American giants

Former Premier League star Salomon Rondon has reportedly made a sacrifice to leave River Plate.

The 34-year-old gained popularity in the UK playing for West Brom, Newcastle, and Everton.

Rondon, who has played for numerous clubs around the world, joined River Plate in Argentina earlier this year. However, he has now terminated his contract less than a year into his two-year deal.

Family issues prompted Rondon to seek an early exit, and he allegedly gave up a significant sum of money to make it happen.

Successful Stint at River Plate

During his time at River Plate, Rondon scored nine goals in 26 matches and helped the team win the league title last season.

There were reports of a potential move to Mexico, but those hopes have been dashed, leaving his next destination unknown.

A Nomadic Career

Rondon began his senior career at Venezuelan side Aragua before making his mark in Europe. He played for Spanish team Las Palmas and then in La Liga with Malaga from 2010-2012.

He also had stints in the Russian Premier League with Rubin Kazan, Zenit Saint Petersburg, and CSKA Moscow.

He made his debut in England with West Brom in 2015 and later had a loan spell with Newcastle. He then spent two years playing in China before returning to the UK to join Everton in 2021.

However, Rondon's time at Everton was underwhelming, with only three goals and one assist in 31 appearances.

International Success

Rondon made his international debut for Venezuela in 2008 and has since represented his country in four Copa America tournaments. He is currently Venezuela's all-time leading goal scorer with 40 goals.

It remains to be seen where Rondon will go next in his career, but his cult hero status in the Premier League ensures he will continue to be a player of interest.
