Paul Heckingbottom Emerges as Frontrunner
Paul Heckingbottom is the leading candidate to become the new Sunderland manager, according to bookmakers Sky Bet. The current Sheffield United boss has been priced at 3/1 to succeed Tony Mowbray, who was recently axed by the Black Cats. Mowbray's departure comes as Sunderland sits in ninth place in the Championship with only one win in their last five games.
Possible Sacking at Sheffield United
Reports suggest that Heckingbottom himself may also be facing the sack at Sheffield United. The Blades have struggled this season, earning only five points from their 14 Premier League matches. If Heckingbottom is let go, it could boost his chances of taking over at Sunderland.
Other Contenders in the Running
Behind Heckingbottom, Plymouth boss Steven Schumacher is the next favorite at 4/1. Schumacher recently led his team to a victory against Sunderland and currently sits in 16th place in League One. John Eustace, who was sacked by Birmingham, follows at 9/2, while Nice assistant coach Julien Sable is priced at 6/1. Other potential candidates include Nathan Jones at 10/1, Kevin Muscat at 12/1, and England under-21 boss Lee Carsley, also at 12/1.
