Newcastle Hit with Double Blow Ahead of PSG Clash Due to UEFA Rule

Magpies' Squad Further Depleted

Newcastle United's manager Eddie Howe has received disappointing news as his squad faces a crucial Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain. The team has been hit with a double blow due to a little-known UEFA rule, resulting in the absence of two players for the game at Parc des Princes.

Absentees Due to Little-Known Rule

Youngsters Alex Murphy (19) and Amadou Diallo (20) will not be able to participate in the match against the French champions. This is because they are not eligible to be part of Newcastle's B squad, as they haven't been with the club for more than two years.

Thin Squad for Howe

The absence of Murphy and Diallo has left manager Eddie Howe with a squad of just 18 players, further complicating the team's injury-ravaged situation.

Youth Players to Step Up

In light of the limited options available, Howe has enlisted 19-year-old James Huntley to join the squad. Additionally, 17-year-old Lewis Miley, who impressed in training after a strong performance in Saturday's win over Chelsea, may also be selected for the match.

Howe's Comments

Eddie Howe expressed confidence in Miley's abilities, stating, "There is every chance he [Miley] will be involved; I think he is ready. He has a great temperament for these occasions. The thing I loved about him after the game on Saturday, it was just another game for him, that is how he will need to approach this one."

Regarding the squad's injury situation, Howe mentioned, "We are pretty much as we were at the weekend, but just with a few absentees who can't play in this competition. Joe [Willock] is seeing a specialist tomorrow, we are still unsure on him. Sean [Longstaff] has not travelled."

Injury Woes for Newcastle

Newcastle United is already dealing with a lengthy injury list, with players such as Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes, Callum Wilson, Joe Willock, and Sean Longstaff currently sidelined.

Champions League Struggles

Newcastle finds themselves at the bottom of Group F in the Champions League, having only secured one victory in their four matches against PSG and suffering two defeats against Borussia Dortmund.
