Max Verstappen to Pay Over £1 Million to Compete in F1 Next Season, Lewis Hamilton Pays Less Than Half

Verstappen's Price Tag for F1 Competition

Max Verstappen, the reigning F1 champion, will have to pay a hefty sum of over £1 million to compete in the upcoming season. The Dutch star, who secured his third successive drivers' championship in 2023, dominated with a record-breaking 16 wins and 575 points.

Calculating F1 Racing Licences

F1 racing licences for the following season are determined based on the previous term's points totals. The base cost for drivers is approximately £9,000, with an additional charge of £1,800 for each point accumulated. Verstappen's remarkable 575-point total translates to a payment exceeding £1 million. His total cost for the license amounts to £1,046,911.

Hamilton's Lower Fee

In contrast, seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton will only need to pay £431,349 to compete in 2024. This amount is less than half of Verstappen's fee. Hamilton collected 234 points and failed to win a race for the second consecutive season.

Other Drivers' Costs

Williams driver Logan Sargeant, who earned just one point in the 2023 season, will pay the least amount with a total fee of £10,800.

Verstappen's Complaints

Verstappen has expressed his dissatisfaction with the high fees, stating that he believes it is unfair. He argues that other sports do not require such substantial payments, especially considering the increasing number of races. The 2024 season will feature a record 24 races, up from the 22 held in 2023.
