Not a Voluntary Departure
Veteran commentator Martin Tyler has revealed that he did not voluntarily leave Sky Sports after 33 years, but rather he was "stepped down" by the broadcaster. Tyler made this clarification during a catch-up interview with talkSPORT, stressing that he is not bitter towards Sky and still maintains friendships there.
A Legendary Career
During his tenure at Sky Sports, Tyler provided commentary for some of the most memorable moments in Premier League history. From Sergio Aguero's dramatic title-winning goal in 2012 to Stan Collymore's iconic strike for Liverpool in 1996, Tyler's calls have become part of Premier League folklore.
Peter Drury Takes the Helm
Following Tyler's departure, Sky Sports enlisted Peter Drury as his replacement. Drury, who commentates on one game a week for Sky, is known for his work with NBC Sports as well as his international commentary. His signing further solidifies Sky's commitment to delivering top-notch coverage to its viewers.
Continuing Work and Coaching
Despite leaving Sky Sports, Tyler has not retired from commentating. He has been commentating on games for overseas networks this season and recently made his return to UK screens, providing commentary for a match between Porto and Shakhtar on Discovery Plus. In addition to his commentary work, Tyler also coaches at non-league side Dartford.
