City's Missed Opportunity
Manchester City reportedly failed to include a sell-on clause in Cole Palmer's transfer to Chelsea, a missed opportunity after their success with Jadon Sancho's transfer.
Sancho's Profitable Transfer
In 2017, Manchester City sold Jadon Sancho to Borussia Dortmund for £8 million, including a 15% sell-on clause. When Sancho was later sold to Manchester United for £73 million in 2021, City earned a significant chunk of that amount.
No Repeat with Palmer
However, it seems that Manchester City did not secure a sell-on clause for Cole Palmer's transfer to Chelsea, according to The Daily Mail. City accepted £40 million up front for Palmer, along with £2.5 million in potential add-ons, without negotiating a sell-on clause.
Other Profitable Deals
Manchester City has benefited from sell-on clauses in the past, such as when Pedro Porro was signed by Spurs for £42 million and when Romeo Lavia joined Chelsea for £58 million. But Chelsea was pleasantly surprised to find no sell-on clause in Palmer's deal.

Palmer's Success at Chelsea
Cole Palmer has made a strong start at Chelsea, scoring four times in six league starts and establishing himself as a regular in Mauricio Pochettino's first XI. He recently made his debut for the England national team and is expected to start in Chelsea's upcoming match against Newcastle.
