Luca Zidane Opens Up About Leaving Real Madrid to Make His Own Way in Football

Stepping Out of His Father's Shadow

Luca Zidane, son of football legend Zinedine Zidane, made the decision to leave Real Madrid and forge his own path in the sport. Despite being handed his La Liga debut by his father in 2018, Luca wanted to establish himself outside of his father's shadow. While he made just one more appearance for Los Blancos during his father's tenure as manager, Luca has since found success with other clubs.

Academy Progression and Family Legacy

Luca Zidane, a winner of the under-17 Euros with France in 2015, came up through Real Madrid's academy after joining the club as a child. His father, Zinedine Zidane, had a storied career as a player for the Spanish giants and later returned as manager, winning multiple league titles and Champions League trophies. Zidane Sr. also won the prestigious Ballon d'Or in 1998.

Moving On from Real Madrid

In 2020, Luca Zidane made the decision to leave Real Madrid and joined Rayo Vallecano. He later moved to Eibar last summer. Luca has spoken about the pressure of his father's reputation on his own career, expressing a desire for people to judge him based on his own performances rather than making comparisons. He has also emphasized that his and his father's careers are separate entities.

Success with Eibar

Since joining Eibar, Luca Zidane has been in top form, keeping 16 clean sheets in 46 matches for the club. Eibar narrowly missed out on promotion to La Liga last season but currently sit second in the table this term. Luca has played every minute of the campaign so far, showcasing his skills and establishing himself as a talented goalkeeper.
