Is Erik ten Hag the Right Manager for Manchester United?

Is Erik ten Hag the Right Manager for Manchester United?

Struggles and Doubts

Manchester United's recent struggles have raised questions about whether Erik ten Hag is the right manager to lead the club forward. Back-to-back defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle have put his job under scrutiny, but some experts believe he deserves more time.

Credit in the Bank

Despite the recent results, Ten Hag's achievements from last season have given him credit in the bank, according to SunSport's Neil Custis. He believes that Ten Hag had a fantastic first season and should be given a chance to turn things around.

A Tough Few Weeks Ahead

While Custis thinks Ten Hag is the right man for the job, he acknowledges that the coming weeks will be tough. Manchester United's performances have not been as good as they were last season, and if things continue to unravel, it could become a complete mess.

A Short-Term Solution

Football Editor Charlie Wyett agrees that Ten Hag should be given until the end of the season, but he doesn't believe he will stay long term. Wyett argues that Manchester United's third-place finish last season made them look better than they actually were and that the team has gone backwards.

Missing a Striker

Both Custis and Wyett agree that the real problem at Manchester United is the lack of a striker at the top of their game. Despite investing in Rasmus Hojlund over the summer, Wyett believes the club could have signed Harry Kane a couple of seasons ago if they had pushed for it.

Attacking Struggles

The squad's attackers are currently failing, with Marcus Rashford in a bad run of form and Antony and Jadon Sancho not producing. Custis believes injuries to key players like Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have contributed to the team's struggles, but they are not the sole reason.

Quelling Player Power

Ten Hag's appointment was also meant to address the issue of player power at the club. Custis cites Jose Mourinho's feud with Paul Pogba as an example. He adds that Mourinho was spot on with his analysis of Anthony Martial, who Custis describes as looking disinterested in playing football.

A Tough Season Ahead

While the player issues at the club are no easy fix, Wyett predicts that Ten Hag will be gone by the end of the season. He believes the manager deserves a chance to get the best out of the summer signings, but he also acknowledges that it will be a tough season for Manchester United.

Stick with Ten Hag

Custis hopes that Ten Hag will still be at the club by the end of the season for the good of Manchester United. He believes that sticking with the manager is the right decision because his ideas, principles, and determination are correct.
