Horseracing Trainers Threatened by Disturbing Phone Calls from "The Acid Man"

Horseracing Trainers Threatened by Disturbing Phone Calls from The Acid Man

A sick individual going by the name of "The Acid Man" has been terrorizing big-name horseracing trainers with life-threatening phone calls. On November 10, the person made calls to at least ten trainers, threatening to throw acid in their faces at the racecourse. The trainers who have received these horrifying calls include six-time champion Nicky Henderson, Gary Moore, Charlie Fellowes, and Richard Fahey.

Trainers Call for Police Investigation

The National Trainers Federation (NTF) has called upon the police to track down the person responsible for these threats. Essex Police is currently investigating the matter. Some trainers managed to record parts of the distressing conversations, and it is believed that there is enough evidence to identify the perpetrator.

Trainers Share Their Harrowing Experiences

Gary Moore, 67, revealed that he received a call in which the person claimed to be "The Acid Man" and threatened to attack him at the racecourse. Other trainers, including Nicky Henderson, have reported similar calls. Moore acknowledged that abusive calls have become increasingly worse in recent years, and finding a solution to stop them is challenging.

Charlie Fellowes, 37, shared his experience of receiving the call while he was with his wife and three-year-old son. He described the call as "very sinister" and stated that his wife was shocked by the vile threats. Fellowes mentioned that trainers often receive angry calls from punters, but this call was different and unexpected.

NTF Launches Campaign to Address Abuse

In response to the rise in abusive calls, emails, and online messages, the NTF launched a campaign to encourage trainers to report such incidents. The organization aims to involve the police in cases of abuse where possible. Trainers have been urged to come forward and report any threats they have received.

Police Investigation Underway

Essex Police confirmed that they are investigating multiple reports of malicious communications that occurred on November 10, 2023. They have identified ten victims so far and are working to link the reports. The NTF emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, stating that this level of threat should be treated as criminal behavior.

The trainers involved hope that action will be taken against the person responsible for these disturbing phone calls.
