ELN Demands 'Security Guarantees' for Release of Luis Diaz's Dad

ELN Demands Security Guarantees for Release of Luis Diazs Dad

Rebel Group Demands Security Guarantees

Colombia's ELN rebel group has stated that they need "security guarantees" before they release Luis Diaz's dad, who was kidnapped alongside his mother at gunpoint in Colombia nine days ago. The guerilla group had initially promised to release Luis Manuel Diaz, 58, on November 2, but have now made this new demand.

Concerns for Hostage-Takers' Safety

The latest demand from the ELN seems to confirm speculation that the hostage-takers are concerned for their own safety if they release Luis Diaz's father. The group accused the government of complicating matters with their response to the kidnapping, which included a massive search operation involving police and soldiers.

Emotional Plea from Luis Diaz

Luis Diaz, the Liverpool star, took to Instagram to post an emotional message urging the ELN to release his father "immediately." He described his father as a hard-working family man and asked international organizations to work together for his freedom. Diaz's mother was released shortly after the kidnapping.

ELN Responds with New Statement

In response to Diaz's plea, the ELN released a statement signed by the leader of the unit responsible for the kidnapping. The statement explained that the release plan is being delayed due to the ongoing search operation in the area. The group promised to release Luis Manuel Diaz as soon as they have security guarantees for the operation.

Footballer Scores Dramatic Equalizer

While the search for his father continues, Luis Diaz scored a dramatic 95th-minute equalizer in his first game since the kidnapping. He lifted up his Liverpool shirt after the goal to display a message in Spanish that read "Freedom for Papa."

Reports of Months of Planning

Reports have emerged suggesting that the ELN planned the kidnapping for at least five months. They allegedly put Luis Manuel Diaz under surveillance to study his routine and determine the best time to strike. CCTV footage showed the couple being followed by men on motorbikes before the kidnapping occurred.

Reward Offered for Father's Return

Colombian authorities have offered a reward of £40,600 for the safe return of Luis Diaz's father. Despite earlier speculation that he may have been smuggled across the border, Colombian police believe that he is still in the country. The search operation, which includes sniffer dogs, is ongoing in border areas near Venezuela.
