God. What a session that was. I was literally on the edge of my sofa last night watching Ronnie and Zhao trade frames like heavyweight punches. My neighbor actually texted me at 9pm asking if I was okay after I shouted when Ronnie missed that straightforward red in frame 3.
The Rocket's semi-final against Zhao Xintong sits perfectly balanced at 4-4 after yesterday's opening session, and they'll be back at the table THIS MORNING to continue what's shaping up to be an absolute classic at the Crucible.
Ronnie's Slow-Motion Start Nearly Cost Him
Ronnie looked half-asleep for the first two frames. Seriously. I've never seen him look so disinterested since that exhibition in Glasgow back in 2018 when he played in his socks after complaining about new shoes.
Zhao pounced immediately, taking a 2-0 lead while O'Sullivan was still seemingly finding his rhythm. But then something clicked. That familiar intensity returned to Ronnie's eyes, and suddenly he was flowing around the table like the genius we've watched for decades.
By mid-session, teh momentum had completely shifted.
What the hell happened with Williams and that black?
Meanwhile, poor Mark Williams. That missed black in the final frame against Trump will haunt his dreams tonight.
Trump goes to bed with a two-frame cushion, but he's been playing nowhere near his devastating best. I've seen better cue action from the drunk guys at my local club on a Saturday night. And yet... he's winning. That's what champions do, I suppose.
Williams has to be kicking himself. Trump has been offering chances like free samples at a supermarket, but the Welshman hasn't capitalized nearly enough.
Today's Viewing Details (if you're not lucky enough to be there)
Action kicks off at 10am.
You can catch every shot on BBC iPlayer or Discovery+ if you're streaming, or flip between BBC One/Two/Four and TNT Sports if you're old-school like my dad who still refuses to "watch snooker on a telephone."
The Crucible Atmosphere is Electric
I spent $430 on tickets for tomorrow's session... probably should've waited until payday, but who can resist? The atmosphere inside that theatre is something television simply cannot capture. Like being at a religious ceremony where everyone's religion is snooker.
Last time I was there, I ended up sitting next to a guy who claimed he'd been to every World Championship since 1977. He had a notebook filled with every century break he'd witnessed live. Some people, right?
Prediction Time (I'll probably regret this)
O'Sullivan to edge Zhao 17-15 in a match that'll have more twists than my attempt at assembling IKEA furniture.
Trump to gradually pull away from Williams, finishing 17-12, but not before Williams gives us one more magical session to remember him by.
Stay tuned as we bring you all the action from Sheffield. This tournament just keeps delivering drama adn I'm here for every moment of it.
