Holy crap, we're actually watching Martin Bakole and Efe Ajagba throw hands RIGHT NOW on this stacked Saudi card! My DAZN stream keeps buffering at the worst possible moments because my neighbor's apparently downloading the entire internet. Typical.
These two massive heavyweights are battling it out beneath the main event where Canelo's defending his collection of super-middleweight belts (WBA, WBC, WBO) against William Skull. I've got $40 riding on this with my brother-in-law who swears Ajagba's going to "dominate." We'll see about that.
Poor Bakole.
That February Nightmare Still Haunts Me
Remember when Bakole stepped in against Joseph Parker back in February? On TWO DAYS' NOTICE? I was watching that disaster unfold at my friend's place, and we all knew it was a terrible idea. Parker absolutely demolished him in the second round. One of those knockouts that makes you wince and reach for another drink.
Now here's Bakole, less than three months later, trying to pick up teh pieces and rebuild his reputation. Gotta respect the courage, even if my brain questions the timing. Is three months enough recovery time after getting your consciousness temporarily deleted? My boxing coach would say absolutely not.
Why Are We All Still Awake?
If you're following along on this live blog like me, you're probably wondering why we do this to ourselves. Staying up until ungodly hours, watching men punish each other in Saudi Arabia while eating leftover pizza from yesterday.
The things we do for boxing...
Comeback or Catastrophe?
The big question hanging over this fight is whether Bakole can bounce back and reclaim his spot as a serious heavyweight contender. His team swears he's fully recovered, but boxing is unforgiving. I talked to a cutman last week who worked with him in 2019, adn he said Bakole's chin was always suspect against big punchers.
Ajagba, meanwhile, brings that terrifying Nigerian power that can end fights in an instant. I watched his knockout reel yesterday while supposed to be working. Worth it. My boss walked by and just shook his head – he knew exactly what I was doing.
The Saudi Boxing Experiment Continues
This whole Saudi boxing revolution is something else. They're throwing money at the sport like it's going out of style. Back in 2021, I thought this was just a passing fad, but here we are in 2024, and they're hosting some of the biggest cards in boxing.
You can catch all the action on DAZN PPV if you're willing to shell out the cash. I split it with three friends and we're all texting each other with increasingly incoherent commentary as the night goes on.
I'll keep updating as this heavyweight clash unfolds... assuming my internet connection holds up. If not, I'm blaming the neighbor and his apparent decision to download every season of every show ever made.
