Chancellor to Pledge £10 Million to Support Veterans' Mental Health in Autumn Budget

Chancellor to Pledge £10 Million to Support Veterans Mental Health in Autumn Budget

Jeremy Hunt to Announce Funding for Hero Veterans

In a move to support the mental health of veterans, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is set to pledge £10 million in funding. This announcement will be made during Wednesday's Autumn Budget, where the Chancellor will pay tribute to the brave troops who risk their lives to keep the country safe.

Targeting Help for Veterans

Recognizing the higher risk of depression and suicide among veterans, the Chancellor aims to allocate this funding to provide support for their health and housing needs. A Treasury source stated, "The heroes who risked their lives for our freedom deserve our support. We know homelessness and mental health issues are prevalent so the Chancellor wants to target this money to where it can make a real difference."

Integration Challenges for Veterans

Various studies have indicated that veterans often struggle to integrate back into society after leaving the Armed Forces. This can lead to mental health issues and a higher risk of depression and suicide. Over the past 20 years, more than 10,000 troops have been discharged due to mental health concerns.

The Autumn Statement

The highly-anticipated Autumn Statement will take place in the House of Commons on Wednesday, usually around midday. This is where the Chancellor will outline the government's spending plans and economic forecasts.
